S2C students logged 3,082 volunteer and mentored work placement hours throughout Pittsburgh during the 2011-2012 school year. 100% of School 2 Career participants are eligible for the Pittsburgh Promise. S2C has maintained a 100% high school graduation rate since 2002. Our staff provide daily homework assistance, computer training, tutoring and PSAT/SAT preparation throughout the year. By interning with professionals in the field of their choice, students gain real-life knowledge and experience that prepare them to be successful in college and beyond.

Our Mission

The mission of OPDC’s School 2 Career (S2C) program is to prepare young people to become competent, confident, contributing citizens in our society through collaboration with the family, the school, employers and the community. S2C focuses on job development and career exploration, while teaching the students important virtues such as dependability, accountability and responsibility.

Our Program

The program runs year around and is multi-faceted: in the summer, staff work with students daily in skill-building workshops, followed by a mentored work experience where the student is placed in a job with one of our partner employers. During the school year, S2C provides an after-school academic enhancement program and a mentored work experience.
